Prof. Dr. Kelvin Chan is an Emeritus Professor in Natural Products and TCM Research at the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences and currently serves as an Adjunct Professor in TCM Research at the NICM Health Research Institute of Western Sydney University in Australia. Professor Chan took up the position of Founding Chair Professor and the Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacology at the University of Wolverhampton, the UK (2005-2009). He was invited to take up the position of Joint Chair in Traditional Chinese Medicine at the University of Western Sydney and the University of Sydney (2009-2014) before retiring from a full-time academic position and taking up the position of Senior Advisor in Chinese medicines at the Department of Health in Hong Kong SAR, China (2015-2017). He is a member of the International Advisory Board and Scientific Committee of the Hong Kong Chinese Materia Medica Standards, the Department of Health, Hong Kong SAR, China, and an Individual Expert in the TCM Working Group of the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines and Healthcare (EDQM), drafting monographs in Strasbourg of Chinese materia medica for the European Pharmacopoeia. His research directions and interests mainly include the medicinal and pharmaceutical development of Chinese herbal medicines and natural products.
