Kien Wen Sun was born in Taipei, Taiwan. He holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Princeton University in New Jersey, United States. From 1995 to 2000, he occupied the faculty of Electronic Engineering at Feng Chia University, Taiwan. From 2002 to 2005, he was a professor in the Department of Physics at National Dong Hwa University, Hualien, Taiwan. Since 2005, he has been a professor in the Department of Applied Chemistry at the National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan. During his sabbatical in 2012, he was a visiting professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada. Dr. Sun was appointed as the Department Chair of Applied Chemistry at NCTU from 2012 to 2014. He is also currently a Joint Appointment Professor at the Department of Electronics Engineering and the Director of the Center of Nano Science and Technology at National Chiao Tung University. He has published more than 100 SCI journal research/review papers in the above research fields. He has served as a reviewer and editorial board member for numerous international journals. He has been engaged as a guest editor for many special issues in the Chemosensors journal. His research interests include femtosecond laser and laser spectroscopy in III–V compound semiconductors, spintronics, nanoimprint, nanolithography, nanoelectronics, solar cells, biochips, chemosensors, and biosensing technology.
