Dr B. Kubilay Kaptan is a civil and structural engineer with over twenty years of academic, research, and professional experience in infrastructure systems, disaster resilience, and sustainable construction. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from Boğaziçi University and is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Minho, Portugal. His research focuses on disaster-resilient infrastructure, seismic risk assessment, sustainable cementitious materials, and the utilisation of construction and demolition waste for low-carbon concrete production. He is also involved in flood prediction modelling and digital construction research, including BIM-based infrastructure assessment and optimisation of modular construction systems. Dr Kaptan has published in international peer-reviewed journals on structural performance, sustainability, and disaster risk management. In addition to his academic work, he has contributed to post-disaster infrastructure assessment and recovery projects in multiple countries, integrating engineering analysis with real-world resilience challenges. He has taught structural engineering, reinforced concrete design, earthquake engineering, disaster risk management, and Building Information Modelling at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
