During the investigations of discomycetes in Yunnan, China, five species of Tatraea were discovered on decayed, decorticated oak trees or unidentified wood. All species have typical disc-like, large fruiting bodies with grey, brown or greyish-green colors. The ITS sequence analysis showed that they belong to Tatraea (Helotiaceae, Helotiales) and the LSU and ITS combination revealed a different topology within the genus. Four species, T. clepsydriformis, T. griseoturcoisina, T. yunnanensis and T. yuxiensis were established as new species, and T. aseptata was collected and described on oak woods. The pairwise homoplasy index (PHI) test results indicated that there is no significant genetic recombination (Φw = 1.0) between all related species pairs. All the species described here are supported by descriptions, illustrations and multi-gene analyses.
Erioscyphella is found across various regions and is part of the family Lachnaceae (Helotiales). It is distinguished by its white to orange disc-shaped apothecia, white to brown receptacles, and granulated hairs that contain amorphous or resinous material. These hairs lack swelling apices and crystals. Additionally, this genus is unique for its long ascospores. In the present study, we collected eight specimens from southwestern China. Morphological and phylogenetic analyses based on the combined LSU, ITS, mtSSU and RPB2 dataset showed that our specimens represent four new species of Erioscyphella, including E. ailaoensis, E. baimana, E. gelangheica and E. tengyueica. Here, we provide complete morphological descriptions with illustrations and sequence data essential for future taxonomic and evolutionary research.
A new species, Chlorociboria daliensis, was discovered on decayed decorticated wood in Yunnan Province, southwestern China. Chlorociboria daliensis can be distinguished from other Chlorociboria species by the colour of their discs which are light blue when fresh, pale yellowish-green, green or dark green when dry, branched paraphyses, cylindric or subclavate asci with J+, apical ring in Melzer’s reagent, elongate-ellipsoidal ascospores, and tomentum hyphae which are mostly absent. Phylogenetic analyses based on nLSU and ITS sequence data showed that C. daliensis forms a monophyletic group with a 99% maximum likelihood bootstrap support. The results of the pairwise homoplasy index (PHI) test revealed no significant genetic recombination (Φw = 1.0) between the closely related C. daliensis and C. poutoensis. The current study introduces the new species, C. daliensis, with a detailed description, illustrations, and a taxonomic key for Chlorociboria.
In this study, four filamentous fungi were isolated from dead sheaths of Poaceae in Linzhi, Xizang Autonomous Region, China. Morphological examination and multilocus phylogenetic analysis with the ITS, LSU, SSU, and tef1 loci confirmed the four isolates represent a new species in Periconia, and it is introduced as P. motuoensis. It is characterized by hairy, dark brown to black colonies, apical branched, smooth, thick-walled, solitary, septate conidiophores, light brown and spherical conidiogenous cells, and ellipsoidal to cylindrical, verrucose, thick-walled, sometimes septate and pale brown to brown conidia with two guttulates when mature. Descriptions, illustrations and phylogenetic analysis results of the new species are provided.
