Dr. Laura Maria Fatta is a researcher at the National Center for Rare Diseases, Italian National Institute of Health (ISS), and is a licensed clinical psychologist. She served as developer of the national guidelines on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in adulthood. Her research focuses on autism, particularly on the efficacy of interventions targeting social skills, clinical phenotypes (e.g., gender differences, food selectivity), parental support, and co-occurring conditions. Dr. Fatta held a leadership role in the PEERS® program adaptation for Italy, which aims to improve friendship skills in autistic adolescents. This work resulted in two first-author peer-reviewed publications, the release of the Italian manual, a university grant, and an international award. Dr. Fatta is also involved in multi-site research projects exploring the relation between autism and gender identity in young adults. In the past, she participated in large-scale initiatives, such as the European ASDEU study, which aimed to estimate the prevalence of autism in Italy, as well as research on neurofeedback and clinical phenotypes in children with ADHD. Over the years, she has gained methodological expertise in conducting RCT studies, as well as systematic reviews and meta-analyses, specifically in neurodevelopmental disorders. Academic background includes a PhD in Developmental Psychology, a post-specialization in Psychological Assessment and Counseling, and a postgraduate master’s degree in ASD.
