Biography

I have broad research interests in biomedical, clinical and education research. My laboratory focuses on the role of Wnt/beta-catenin signaling components post-fertilization and in organ development, and how their deregulation leads to diseases such as cancer and congenital diseases. I have made important contributions to this field, identifying novel mechanisms of action for the Ser/Thr kinases CK2 and GSK3β in Wnt/beta-catenin signaling and embryo development, some of which had made it to developmental biology textbooks. Our recent focus is on deciphering the molecular and biological mechanisms that underlie Okur-Chung Neurodevelopment Syndrome (OCNDS), a syndrome ascribed to mutations in CK2alpha (CSNK2A1), which can be used to develop appropriate therapeutic approaches. I have also career development and education roles. I have extensive expertise in designing and implementing strategies to facilitate and foster career development of biomedical trainees, including underrepresented groups in biomedicine.
