My name is Raffaele Scarpellini (DVM, PhD). My research focuses on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in veterinary medicine, particularly in hospital-acquired infections and zoonotic transmission. As a PhD candidate (2020-2024) in Veterinary Medical Sciences at the University of Bologna, I studied AMR epidemiology, molecular mechanisms, and surveillance strategies in veterinary hospitals. Specifically, I studied the diffusion of Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) in small animals and how they spread within the veterinary context. My work, now continuing as a Research Fellow, emphasizes AMR surveillance in veterinary settings and specific antimicrobial stewardship strategies. I collaborated internationally, spending six months at the Complutense University of Madrid. I have authored peer-reviewed articles on AMR in companion animals, livestock, honeybees, and wildlife. I have presented at national and international conferences, receiving two awards for best oral presentations. I actively mentor students, review scientific journals, and contribute to scientific dissemination, including public outreach videos. Since 2020, I have been involved in teaching veterinary bacteriology at the University of Bologna and, served as a Contract Professor at the University of Padova. My goal is to advance AMR research in veterinary medicine through international collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches.
