Dr. María Fernanda Alves-Rosa is an award-winning researcher and immunologist with expertise in immunology, molecular biology, and neglected tropical diseases. She earned her B.Sc. in biology and Ph.D. from the Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires, Argentina, conducting her doctoral research in the Division of Immunology at the National Academy of Medicine. Her scientific work includes pioneering studies on the previously unrecognized immunological activity of alendronate. Since 2003, she has been based in Panama, where she serves as a professor of molecular biology and immunology at Universidad Latina de Panamá and Universidad de Panamá and as a researcher at the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology of Diseases (CBCMe), INDICASAT-AIP. Her research focuses on host–parasite interactions, immune responses to tropical human parasites, and the development of experimental models to evaluate therapeutic interventions. Her current work emphasizes the identification of innovative therapeutic alternatives for neglected diseases, bridging fundamental immunology with translational research.
