I am a virologist and head of the Reference Center for influenza and other respiratory viruses at IPD. My research activities are mainly focused on respiratory viruses. My early research activities were exclusively limited to influenza viruses, with the aim of highlighting the genetic and antigenic dynamic of influenza strains circulating in Senegal. I was also involved in clinical trial studies on the effectiveness of influenza vaccines (TIV, LAIV). Since 2015, we have started flu burden studies in Senegal with a focus on severe acute respiratory infection (SARI). The investigation of flu viruses at the human/animal interface is another focus of my research activities. In 2012, I began to investigate non-influenza respiratory viruses. I am also the head of the reference laboratory for Measles/Rubella surveillance. In relation to training and teaching, I regularly supervise students (Master II or PhD degrees), and I regularly teach virology at the University of Dakar (Master II degree).
