Multi-UAV path planning algorithms are crucial for the successful design and operation of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) networks. While many network researchers have proposed UAV path planning algorithms to improve system performance, an in-depth review of multi-UAV path planning has not been fully explored yet. The purpose of this study is to survey, classify, and compare the existing multi-UAV path planning algorithms proposed in the literature over the last eight years in various scenarios. After detailing classification, we compare various multi-UAV path planning algorithms based on time consumption, computational cost, complexity, convergence speed, and adaptability. We also examine multi-UAV path planning approaches, including metaheuristic, classical, heuristic, machine learning, and hybrid methods. Finally, we identify several open research problems for further investigation. More research is required to design smart path planning algorithms that can re-plan pathways on the fly in real complex scenarios. Therefore, this study aims to provide insight into the multi-UAV path planning algorithms for network researchers and engineers to contribute further to the design of next-generation UAV systems.

Recent advancements in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have proven UAVs to be an inevitable part of future networking and communications systems. While many researchers have proposed UAV-assisted solutions for improving traditional network performance by extending coverage and capacity, an in-depth study on aspects of artificial intelligence-based autonomous UAV network design has not been fully explored yet. The objective of this paper is to present a comprehensive survey of AI-based autonomous UAV networks. A careful survey was conducted of more than 100 articles on UAVs focusing on the classification of autonomous features, network resource management and planning, multiple access and routing protocols, and power control and energy efficiency for UAV networks. By reviewing and analyzing the UAV networking literature, it is found that AI-based UAVs are a technologically feasible and economically viable paradigm for cost-effectiveness in the design and deployment of such next-generation autonomous networks. Finally, this paper identifies open research problems in the emerging field of UAV networks. This study is expected to stimulate more research endeavors to build low-cost, energy-efficient, next-generation autonomous UAV networks.

In recent decades, serious natural or man-made disasters such as earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, and 9/11 have occurred with catastrophic consequences. To minimize the damage or loss of lives in the aftermath of a disaster, it is important that rescuers are able to track the trapped victims and perform coordinated relief efforts immediately. The traditional telecommunication system (e.g. a landline or cellular network) may be either partially or entirely damaged by a disaster incident. Internet of Things (IoT) is a promising technology that can be used to solve some of the problems mentioned above. To date, the application of IoT in post-disaster management is still an unexplored problem. The objective of this paper is to study the IoT-based proposals for post-disaster management framework. It discusses the key enabling technologies for IoT and provides an insight into IoT-based post-disaster response and recovery. A new algorithm (flowchart) for an ad hoc network formation linked to device-to-device communications towards a robust post-disaster management framework is presented.

This survey delves into cross-layer energy-efficient solutions and cutting-edge security measures for Internet of Things (IoT) networks. The conventional security techniques are considered inadequate, leading to the suggestion of AI-powered intrusion detection systems and novel strategies such as blockchain integration. This research aims to promote the development of smart cities by enhancing sustainability, security, and efficiency in the industrial and agricultural sectors through the use of IoT, blockchain, AI, and new communication technologies like 5G. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive review and analysis of secure and energy-efficient cross-layer IoT frameworks based on survey of more than 100 published research articles. We highlight the significance of developing IoT security for robust and sustainable connected systems. We discuss multi-layered security approaches and ways to enhance the energy efficiency of resource-constrained devices in IoT networks. Finally, we identify open research issues and future research directions in the emerging field of cross-layer design for secure and energy-efficient IoT networks. In order to improve cybersecurity and efficiency in smart cities, the research also focuses on developing a secure, energy-efficient IoT framework integrating blockchain, artificial intelligence, and quantum-safe cryptography.
