Pamela Mancini is a Researcher at the National Center for Water Safety of the Italian National Institute of Health (Istituto Superiore di Sanità, ISS) in Rome, Italy. She holds a PhD in Environmental and Evolutionary Biology and a Second-Level Master’s Degree in Molecular Virology. Her research interests include environmental virology and microbiology across a wide range of aquatic matrices, with particular emphasis on wastewater-based epidemiology for the surveillance of emerging and re-emerging pathogens, as well as on water safety and the assessment of viral risks. She is particularly interested in the ecological processes linking environmental compartments and human health within a One Health framework, with a focus on the role of aquatic ecosystems in the circulation, persistence, and transmission of microorganisms. Her research integrates both targeted molecular approaches, based on the analysis of specific genetic markers, and untargeted approaches, including metagenomics and metaviromics, supported by next-generation sequencing technologies.
