Prof. emeritus Pavao Marović, Dr.Sc., Civ.Eng., was born in Split, Croatia, on January 26, 1954. After graduating from the University of Zagreb (Croatia) as a civil engineer (diploma and Bachelor of Science), he joined the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Split. He has earned the Dr.Sc. (Ph.D. equivalent) in civil engineering from the University of Zagreb in 1987. He has held administrative duties at the university that have included: Head of the Department for Testing and Technology of Materials (1988-91), Vice-dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering (1991-94), President of the University of Split Assembly (1991-93), Vice-rector of the University of Split (1994-98), Head of the Chair for Strength of Materials and Testing of Structures (1998-2022) and Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture (2000-2006). Since that time, he has experimentally tested over 100 small and medium span bridges, over 30 crane paths in industrial halls, and a large number of ceiling structures. He has designed over 25 small and medi¬um span bridges and several industrial and office buildings. Furthermore, he has been selected as leader or co-leader of 8 international (TEMPUS, ALIS, CEEPUS) and 16 domestic research projects; he has written or co-written approximately 250 scientific and professional papers for domestic and international journals and conference pro-ceedings. In the year 2000, he was elected as the Member of the Croatian Academy of Technical Sciences.
