Biography

Dr. Rabia Amen Research Associate | University of Florida I am an environmental scientist and researcher dedicated to developing sustainable solutions for some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. My work sits at the intersection of forest resources, materials science, and water remediation, with a specific focus on protecting our natural ecosystems through innovation. Current Role & Expertise Currently, as a Research Associate at the University of Florida, I leverage my background in biochemistry and sustainable bioproducts to advance our understanding of environmental protection. My research is driven by the goal of creating a "circular bio-economy" where waste products are transformed into high-value environmental tools. My primary areas of focus include: Water Purification: Developing advanced, bio-based adsorbents and nanomaterials to remove hazardous pollutants, including heavy metals and "forever chemicals" (PFAS). Sustainable Bioproducts: Engineering high-performance materials from renewable resources like cellulose and biochar. Environmental Chemistry: Investigating the behavior of contaminants in soil and water to improve remediation strategies and public health outcomes. Academic & Professional Journey Prior to joining UFL, I earned my Ph.D. in Forest Resources from Mississippi State University, where I specialized in sustainable bioproducts. My doctoral research pioneered the use of modified agricultural and wood-based materials for wastewa
