Biography

I hold a BSc in Biotechnology and began my research career in the laboratory of Dr. Ramon Martí, focusing on mitochondrial disorders. During my MSc in Translational Medicine, I participated in the development of a lentiviral-based gene therapy for MNGIE, which was awarded in an international meeting. I later pursued a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biomedicine at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, supported by two competitive fellowships. My doctoral work advanced AAV-based gene therapy strategies for MNGIE and provided expertise in nucleotide metabolism, molecular biology, enzymology, HPLC, and mass spectrometry. I co-authored nine scientific publications, delivered 20 presentations at national and international conferences, and contributed as co-inventor to a European patent and two EMA orphan drug designations. Since 2017, I have been working at the Cell Therapy Service at the Banc de Sang i Teixits (Barcelona) under the supervision of Dr. Joaquim Vives. My research focuses on the osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) from bone marrow and Wharton’s jelly, and on strategies to enhance this process. I am also involved in 3D bioprinting and translational ovine models for advanced therapy medicinal products targeting osteochondral diseases. This work has led to three publications, a book chapter, and multiple presentations at scientific meetings. I have also co-led research projects and supervised undergraduate, MSc, and PhD students.
