Biography

Dr. Devasahayam Arokia Balaya Rex (MPhil, PhD) is a proteomics researcher in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, USA. He earned his MPhil at PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, India, and his PhD at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangalore, India, where he trained in the Center for Systems Biology and Molecular Medicine and the Centre for Integrative Omics Data Science. His research applies mass spectrometry–based proteomics, multi-omics data integration, and patient-derived organoid models to study cell signaling, the tumor microenvironment, and disease biomarkers, with a focus on gastrointestinal cancers, including colorectal cancer. He has developed open bioinformatics resources such as ProteoArk, a one-pot proteomics data analysis and visualization tool, and and GlycoExplorer, a tool for N-glycoproteomics data analysis and visualization, and has co-authored a widely read tutorial on bottom-up proteomics by mass spectrometry. His recent work includes protocols for patient-derived colorectal "mini-gut" organoids for clinical research. His current research focuses on immunopeptidomics and glycoproteomics, including the identification of tumor-associated antigens with multi-cancer therapeutic potential. He is an active author and peer reviewer in the proteomics and systems-medicine community (ORCID: 0000-0002-9556-3150)
