Rima R. Habib is a professor of environmental and occupational health, and the former chair of the Department of Environmental Health at FHS (2015-2021). She has led research on environmental and work-related exposures and the health of displaced, refugee, and migrant populations. She served as chair/co-chair of the Technical Committee on Gender and Work in the International Ergonomics Association for 9 years between 2009 and 2018. Habib was awarded the Occupational Health and Safety Section’s International Award of the American Public Health Association in November 2017; and was elected a fellow of the renowned Collegium Ramazzini in 2017. She co-leads the NIH-funded Global Environmental and Occupational Health Research and Training Hub for the MENA Region (GEOHealth-MENA) which incorporates comprehensive research on Syrian refugee agricultural workers in Lebanon, with a focus on their climate change-linked work exposures to heat stress and pesticides, accounting for social stressors. Habib has led and published research articles focusing on climate change and health including “Impacts of Climate Change and Heat Stress on Farmworkers' Health” (Frontiers in Public Health 2022). In her research, focused on marginalized communities and workers in conflict settings, Habib used a gender lens and promoted the use of intersectional approaches to further understand the interplay between environmental and social stressors and their impacts on populations’ health outcomes.
