Dr Mark R Baker received his medical training at Cambridge and Yale Universities between 1992 and 2000. He also has a PhD in neuroscience from Cambridge University. Following medical house jobs in London and Cambridge, and a brief period as a post-doctoral research assistant in Cambridge, he moved to Newcastle in 2003 to train in neurology and in clinical neurophysiology, and is currently a UK certified specialist in both neurology and clinical neurophysiology. He became a Clinical Lecturer in 2008, and in 2013 he was appointed consultant clinical neurophysiologist and consultant neurologist at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, and honorary senior clinical lecturer at Newcastle University. He has over 25 years of experience in systems neuroscience research, primarily investigating the physiology of movement control but encompassing also experimental neurology, particularly experiments in patients with neurological disorders presenting with weakness or abnormal movements. A more recent focus of research in his laboratories is the development of electrodiagnostics and electroceuticals for neurological diseases, with an emphasis on neurodegenerative diseases.
