Biography

Samuele Moretti is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Laboratoire Vignes, Biotechnologies et Environnement at the Université de Haute-Alsace (France), working on grapevine wood decay processes mediated by Fomitiporia mediterranea. He is collaborating with the University of Florence (Italy), after beginning research on Esca-associated pathogens while there in a prior post. He previously worked at Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL (Switzerland), on Olea europaea tree-ring traits under Xylella fastidiosa infection. During his PhD he worked at the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies’ Institute of Life Sciences (Italy), studying salt and drought stress responses in Olea europaea. In the context of the PhD, he spent 6 months abroad at Instituto de la Grasa (Spain), investigating on fatty acid desaturases pathway modulation by salinity stress. He obtained his PhD in “Agrobiosciences: Genomics and Crop Science” on 15 September 2017. He won the 2020 Antico Fattore prize for the publication “Effect of saline irrigation on physiological traits, fatty acid composition and desaturase genes expression in olive fruit mesocarp”. He is a member of the International Society for Horticultural Science and the Société Française de Phytopathologie.
