Katia Scotlandi graduated in Biological Sciences from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 1986 and has devoted her career to oncology research. Starting from specialization at the University of Bologna, she continued her training at the academic Rizzoli Institute, the main Italian center for bone sarcomas. She worked as a visiting scientist at the University of Illinois, Chicago (1996); the Kimmel Cancer Center in Philadelphia (1999); INSERM in Nice (2001); and the University of Valencia (2009). She is currently Acting Director of the SC Laboratory of Experimental Oncology, co-director of the Oncology Research Line, and member of the Management Board at the Rizzoli Institute, Bologna, Italy. She is also Secretary of the Working Group on Sarcoma for the Italian Alliance against Cancer (2016–present) and Adjunct Professor
of Molecular Biology (2001–present), and she has mentored more than 70 students.
She served as President of the Italian Association of Cell Cultures from 2015 to 2018. Her research is focused on discovering the players that control the malignancy of bone sarcomas to define biomarkers of risk and the best molecular therapeutic targets. She was awarded the Oswald Van der Veken Prize, Bruxelles (2011) and the Tina Anselmi Award, Bologna (2019). She has co-authored 200 papers in international peer-reviewed journals (H-index: 48, Scopus) and filed 3
