Dr. Marc J. Stern is a Professor in the Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation at Virginia Tech. He received his Ph.D. from Yale University in 2006. His research focuses on the human dimensions of sustainability, including natural resource conflict and planning processes, climate adaptation, and environmental communications and education. His recent book, Social Science Theory for Environmental Sustainability: A Practical Guide, published by Oxford University Press, translates decades of social science research and knowledge for practitioners to use in their everyday work.
