Dr. Simpson has served veterans at VA Puget Sound since in 2000 in clinical, research, teaching, and administrative roles. This line of research has led to inquiries regarding treatment receipt, including which types of settings those with co-occurring substance addiction and mental health conditions do and do not present for care. Dr. Simpson is also keenly interested in who does and does not present for care and why as well as exploring whether alternative modes of care (e.g., web-based, mobile apps, etc.) may be acceptable to and effective for some. Additionally, she is invested in hearing directly from those with co-occurring substance addiction and mental health conditions through qualitative and mixed methods as well as involving those with relevant lived experience in shaping research endeavors and interpreting the resulting data.
