Prof. Andrej Veljković, PhD is an Associate Professor at the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Niš, Serbia. His scientific work is focused on the investigation of oxidative stress, redox imbalance, and inflammation as key mechanisms underlying various pathological conditions, including cancer, cardiovascular and renal diseases, diabetes, and toxicological injury. He is particularly interested in the role of enzymes such as xanthine oxidase, antioxidant defense systems, and inflammatory biomarkers in disease development and progression. His research integrates molecular and clinical biochemistry, aiming to identify reliable biochemical markers and potential therapeutic targets. Prof. Veljković also studies the impact of environmental factors and xenobiotics on cellular stress responses, DNA damage, and immune modulation. He applies both in vitro and in vivo models to explore complex interactions between metabolic and signaling pathways. His work contributes to translational medicine by bridging experimental data with clinical application. He is actively involved in international collaborations and dedicated to mentoring young researchers in biomedical sciences.
