Professor Waleed Awwad is Chairman of the Orthopaedic Surgery Department at King Saud University and Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery with a subspecialty focus in spine surgery. He currently serves as Secretary General of the Saudi Spine Society and is a Board Member of the Pan Arab Spine Society. He previously served as a Board Member of the Saudi Spine Society and as Head of its Research Committee. Professor Awwad is actively involved in spine education, research, and academic publishing. He is a regional and local faculty member of AO Spine and has held several leadership roles, including Chairman of the AO Spine Board in Saudi Arabia and MENA Research Officer. He currently serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Spine Practice and is a member of the editorial boards of the Advanced Spine Journal and the Saudi Medical Journal. At King Saud University, Professor Awwad previously served as Head of the Spine Division and led the Orthopaedic Surgery Department’s Quality Management Team, contributing to clinical governance and academic development. He completed advanced spine fellowships at McGill University in Canada in both paediatric and adult spine surgery, accredited by AO Spine North America. He holds Board Certification in Orthopaedic Surgery (FRCSC) from McGill University and earned his MBBS from King Saud University, completing his internship at King Khalid University Hospital.
