I am a cell and molecular biologist, specialized in cancer biology research. I have a Ph.D. in Morphological Sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and for my thesis project, I investigated multidrug resistance proteins from the superfamily of ABC-transporters in glioblastoma, the highly aggressive brain tumor. Currently, I am an associate scientist fellow at the Kenya Institute of Primate Research (KIPRE), a biomedical research facility in Nairobi. My present research interest is in breast cancer where we have established the first cell lines from the Kenyan population that are being used to understand the differences in tumour biology from Africa descendent women in an effort to identify biomarkers unique in this population.
