In recent years, the rise of advanced artificial intelligence technologies has had a profound impact on many fields, including education and research. One such technology is ChatGPT, a powerful large language model developed by OpenAI. This technology offers exciting opportunities for students and educators, including personalized feedback, increased accessibility, interactive conversations, lesson preparation, evaluation, and new ways to teach complex concepts. However, ChatGPT poses different threats to the traditional education and research system, including the possibility of cheating on online exams, human-like text generation, diminished critical thinking skills, and difficulties in evaluating information generated by ChatGPT. This study explores the potential opportunities and threats that ChatGPT poses to overall education from the perspective of students and educators. Furthermore, for programming learning, we explore how ChatGPT helps students improve their programming skills. To demonstrate this, we conducted different coding-related experiments with ChatGPT, including code generation from problem descriptions, pseudocode generation of algorithms from texts, and code correction. The generated codes are validated with an online judge system to evaluate their accuracy. In addition, we conducted several surveys with students and teachers to find out how ChatGPT supports programming learning and teaching. Finally, we present the survey results and analysis.

Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) is an advanced and multidisciplinary active research domain based on neuroscience, signal processing, biomedical sensors, hardware, etc. Since the last decades, several groundbreaking research has been conducted in this domain. Still, no comprehensive review that covers the BCI domain completely has been conducted yet. Hence, a comprehensive overview of the BCI domain is presented in this study. This study covers several applications of BCI and upholds the significance of this domain. Then, each element of BCI systems, including techniques, datasets, feature extraction methods, evaluation measurement matrices, existing BCI algorithms, and classifiers, are explained concisely. In addition, a brief overview of the technologies or hardware, mostly sensors used in BCI, is appended. Finally, the paper investigates several unsolved challenges of the BCI and explains them with possible solutions.

Neurological disorders (NDs) are becoming more common, posing a concern to pregnant women, parents, healthy infants, and children. Neurological disorders arise in a wide variety of forms, each with its own set of origins, complications, and results. In recent years, the intricacy of brain functionalities has received a better understanding due to neuroimaging modalities, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), magnetoencephalography (MEG), and positron emission tomography (PET), etc. With high-performance computational tools and various machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) methods, these modalities have discovered exciting possibilities for identifying and diagnosing neurological disorders. This study follows a computer-aided diagnosis methodology, leading to an overview of pre-processing and feature extraction techniques. The performance of existing ML and DL approaches for detecting NDs is critically reviewed and compared in this article. A comprehensive portion of this study also shows various modalities and disease-specified datasets that detect and records images, signals, and speeches, etc. Limited related works are also summarized on NDs, as this domain has significantly fewer works focused on disease and detection criteria. Some of the standard evaluation metrics are also presented in this study for better result analysis and comparison. This research has also been outlined in a consistent workflow. At the conclusion, a mandatory discussion section has been included to elaborate on open research challenges and directions for future work in this emerging field.

Programming is a vital skill in computer science and engineering-related disciplines. However, developing source code is an error-prone task. Logical errors in code are particularly hard to identify for both students and professionals, and a single error is unexpected to end-users. At present, conventional compilers have difficulty identifying many of the errors (especially logical errors) that can occur in code. To mitigate this problem, we propose a language model for evaluating source codes using a bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) neural network. We trained the BiLSTM model with a large number of source codes with tuning various hyperparameters. We then used the model to evaluate incorrect code and assessed the model’s performance in three principal areas: source code error detection, suggestions for incorrect code repair, and erroneous code classification. Experimental results showed that the proposed BiLSTM model achieved 50.88% correctness in identifying errors and providing suggestions. Moreover, the model achieved an F-score of approximately 97%, outperforming other state-of-the-art models (recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and long short-term memory (LSTM)).

Feature selection is employed to reduce feature dimensions and computational complexity by eliminating irrelevant and redundant features. A vast amount of increasing data and its processing generate many feature sets, that are reduced by the feature selection process to improve the performance in all sorts of classification, regression, clustering models. This research performs a detailed analysis of motivation and concentrates on the fundamental architecture of feature selection. The study aims to establish a structured formation related to popular methods such as filter, wrapper, embedded into search strategies, evaluation criteria, and learning methods. Different methods organize a comparison of benefits and drawbacks followed by multiple classification algorithms and standard validation measures. The diversity of applications in multiple domains such as data retrieval, prediction analysis, and medical, intrusion, and industrial applications are efficiently highlighted. The study focused on some additional feature selection methods for handling big data. Nonetheless, new challenges have surfaced in the analysis of such data, which are also addressed in this study. Reflecting on commonly encountered challenges and clarifying how to obtain the absolute feature selection method are the significant components of this study.

With the rapid advancement of technology and its easy accessibility, online activity has become an integral part of everyday human life. Expressing opinions, providing feedback, and sharing feelings by commenting on various platforms, including social media, education, business, entertainment, and sports, has become a common phenomenon. Effectively analyzing these comments to uncover latent intentions holds immense value in making strategic decisions across various domains. However, several challenges hinder the process of sentiment analysis including the lexical diversity exhibited in comments, the presence of long dependencies within the text, encountering unknown symbols and words, and dealing with imbalanced datasets. Moreover, existing sentiment analysis tasks mostly leveraged sequential models to encode the long dependent texts and it requires longer execution time as it processes the text sequentially. In contrast, the Transformer requires less execution time due to its parallel processing nature. In this work, we introduce a novel hybrid deep learning model, RoBERTa-BiLSTM, which combines the Robustly Optimized BERT Pretraining Approach (RoBERTa) with Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) networks. RoBERTa is utilized to generate meaningful word embedding vectors, while BiLSTM effectively captures the contextual semantics of long-dependent texts. The RoBERTa-BiLSTM hybrid model leverages the strengths of both sequential and Transformer models to enhance performance in sentiment analysis. We conducted experiments using datasets from IMDb, Twitter US Airline, and Sentiment140 to evaluate the proposed model against existing state-of-the-art methods. Our experimental findings demonstrate that the RoBERTa-BiLSTM model surpasses baseline models (e.g., BERT, RoBERTa-base, RoBERTa-GRU, and RoBERTa-LSTM), achieving accuracies of 80.74%, 92.36%, and 82.25% on the Twitter US Airline, IMDb, and Sentiment140 datasets, respectively. Additionally, the model achieves F1-scores of 80.73%, 92.35%, and 82.25% on the same datasets, respectively.
