Biography

My research focuses on the aqueous synthesis of covalent organic frameworks (COFs), an emerging class of crystalline, porous materials with highly ordered structures and tunable properties. I have contributed to the aqueous-phase synthetic methodologies, enabling greener, faster, and more efficient COF production. Notably, we developed a sonochemical approach to synthesizing imine COFs in water, which not only eliminates toxic solvents but also enhances the crystallinity and stability of the resulting frameworks. Beyond synthesis, my work explores the structural-property relationships of COFs to optimize their performance in diverse applications, including gas sorption, chemical sensing, and photocatalysis. In particular, we achieved a breakthrough in the development of nanoscale COFs in water for enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen production, where we were the first to discover a reverse concentration-dependent photocatalytic phenomenon in a COF system. This unexpected finding sheds new light on charge transfer dynamics and the role of nanoscale COF dispersions in catalytic efficiency. By advancing aqueous-phase COF synthesis and unraveling their fundamental properties, my research paves the way for more sustainable and high-performance porous materials tailored for next-generation energy and environmental applications.
