Amir recently completed his BSc in Neuroscience at UBC and is now pursuing an MSc in Experimental Medicine, focusing on the role of extracellular Granzyme B in pterygium. Driven by a passion for eye research, Amir has contributed to various projects, including studies on Alzheimer's disease in the human neuroretina—specifically ocular glymphatic drainage—and investigations into the role of extracellular Granzyme B in the pathogenesis and progression of wet age-related macular degeneration using post-mortem human eyes. Amir's current research interests include the pathogenesis of pterygium, mechanisms underlying ocular surface diseases, therapeutic strategies for ocular surface disorders, ultraviolet light-induced changes to the eye, and ocular cancers.
