I am André Meneses, DVM, MSc, PhD, Assistant Professor of Small Animal Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universidade Lusófona (Lisbon, Portugal), and a researcher at I-MVET and CECAV (UTAD). I completed a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine and an MSc and PhD in Pathophysiology in Internal Medicine (Nephrology) at São Paulo State University (UNESP), Brazil, working on haemodialysis in dogs, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Regenerative Medicine at Utrecht University, the Netherlands, on canine intestinal organoids. Before moving to Portugal in 2021, I taught for 18 years in Brazil, where I was Associate Professor at the Federal Rural University of Amazonia, director of the university veterinary hospital and coordinator of its residency programme. My work focuses on nephrology and urology in dogs and cats, including haemodialysis, feline lower urinary tract disease, urinary tract infection and antimicrobial resistance, and on canine and feline organoids as translational models. I was principal investigator of an FCT-funded project on canine intestinal organoids and co-authored the consensus on the nomenclature of hepatic, pancreatic and biliary organoids (Cell Stem Cell, 2021). I have supervised or co-supervised 3 PhD and 18 MSc students. I am a member of the European Society of Veterinary Nephrology and Urology (ESVNU) and Guest Editor of the Animals Special Issue "Advances in Companion Animal Nephrology".
