Adam Armada-Moreira is an interdisciplinary neuroscientist and senior postdoctoral researcher at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE), Italy. He is part of the European CROSSBRAIN project, where he works on providing the in vitro proof of function and biocompatibility for a range of novel materials and implantable devices. His research also explores strategies for neuronal modulation, combining experimental electrophysiology with computational control systems and machine learning to interrogate and shape neuronal excitability. Previously, during his doctoral studies, he pioneered the development of enzymatically-active artificial astrocytes designed to counteract excitotoxicity, merging neurosciences with synthetic biology. Subsequently, in his first postdoctoral position, he led high-resolution mapping of bioelectrical signals of the Venus Flytrap using flexible multi-electrode arrays, and contributed to the validation of organic electrochemical transistors as advanced tools for bioelectrical recording. His research bridges neuronal dynamics, organic electronics, and synthetic biology, unified by a central interest in building and interfacing functional biohybrid systems. Beyond his laboratory work, he is a recognized science communicator and an active advocate for diversity and inclusion in STEM.
