Athanasios G. Pantelis, MD, MSc, FMBS, FACS, is a board-certified general and metabolic bariatric surgeon, currently working at Athens Medical Group, Psychiko Clinic. He is affiliated with the 1st Propaedeutic Surgical Department, of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens. He is also a co-founder of LapObesity, a private scientific company focusing on the multidisciplinary and surgical management of obesity. He graduated from the University of Athens Medical School and completed his specialization at Mohak Bariatrics and Robotics, India (one of the world's highest-volume centers), earning the Fellowship in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FMBS). He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and SCOPE certified in obesity management. Dr. Pantelis has received two international scholarships from IFSO and was awarded an MSc in Trauma Sciences from Queen Mary University of London. He serves as Academic Editor for PLOS ONE and has peer-reviewed extensively for MDPI, Springer Nature, and Wiley. His research centers on integrating artificial intelligence into patient selection and outcome prediction in bariatric surgery. Among his most cited works are a 2021 scoping review on AI/ML in bariatric surgery (Obesity Surgery), and a meta-research on ICG use in abdominal surgery. He is a frequent speaker at global congresses and is passionate about advancing multidisciplinary obesity care.
