Nonconventional chromophores are good candidates for preparing luminous gels because their luminescence is usually enhanced in the aggregated state. In this work, a simple one-pot strategy for polymerization-induced gelation of polymer fluorescent gels was developed, and a self physically crosslinked luminous gel PUHG based on a non-conjugated/nonconventional luminous polyurethane derivative was obtained. Detailed experimental and theoretical studies probed the physical properties and luminescence principles of PUHG's aggregated state. Molecular dynamics simulations suggest that abundant non-covalent interactions and physical entanglement between polyurethane chains are the main driving forces of gel formation and the source of luminescence. PUHG displays stable photophysical properties, environmental tolerance, good adhesion properties and processability, leading to the validation of patterning applications of PUHG on different organic/inorganic substrates. This work broadens the application range of nonconventional luminous polymers and provides a simple route for large-scale preparation of fluorescent gel soft materials.
The removal of antibiotic contaminants through electrocatalytic processes is of increasing environmental concern. Herein, a series of metal-doped carbon quantum dot-decorated tin oxide anodes (Ti/SnO2–M/N-CQDs) were successfully synthesized by a facile strategy. Among them, the Ti/SnO2–Ni/N-CQDs electrode displays exceptional electrocatalytic activity in degrading tetracycline (TC), achieving a kinetic constant of 0.163 min−1, approximately 2.5-fold greater than that of the Ti/SnO2–N-CQDs electrode. Electrochemical analysis shows that the incorporation of Ni significantly improves anodic properties, including elevated oxygen evolution overpotential, increased accessible active sites, and enhanced charge transport kinetics. Reactive species analysis demonstrates that the oxidation process is dominated by •OH, with additional contributions from O2•− and 1O2. Electron paramagnetic resonance results confirm the enhanced generation of •OH upon Ni modification. Mechanistically, combined density functional theory calculations and XPS analysis reveal that Ni/N-CQDs act as an efficient electron shuttle via the Ni2+/Ni3+ redox cycle, accelerating electron migration between Sn and Sb while modulating the adsorption/desorption behavior of •OH. This synergistic modulation of electronic structure and interfacial reactions significantly promotes reactive species generation and catalytic efficiency. Furthermore, the system achieves effective detoxification, as evidenced by reduced toxicity of degradation products. Overall, this study presents a feasible method for fabricating high-performance SnO2-based electrocatalysts and offers new insights into transition metal-mediated electron transfer mechanisms for antibiotic wastewater treatment.
