In order to solve the problem of effective communication in the network, low power wide area network (LPWAN) technology can complement 5G network because of its advantages of wide coverage, low power consumption and low cost. For 5G smart grid based on Lora, this paper first analyzes its network architecture. Then, aiming at the application of smart grid, a multi-mode and multi priority communication network scheme is proposed. After that, this paper further analyzes the format and characteristics of Lora packet in the scheme, mainly considers three basic parameters: code rate (CR), spread spectrum factor (SF) and bandwidth (BW), and simulates the influence of these factors on packet transmission delay and transmission rate. Finally, we test the performance of network coverage in open area and dense urban area, and compare the performance through delay and received signal strength. This paper provides a theoretical and testing basis for the wide area coverage of 5G network.
