= P. ivanovitschi Zaragoza-Caballero, Zurita-García y Ramírez-Ponce, 2023, syn. nov.

Two new species of the genus Scaptolenus LeConte (Coleoptera: Elateridae: Elaterinae: Cebrionini) from Mexico are described and illustrated: Scaptolenus pacofierroi sp. nov., found in the municipality of Aldama, in the state of Tamaulipas and Scaptolenus zuritai sp. nov., collected from the Chamela-UNAM Biological Station, in the state of Jalisco. Their segregation is based on the morphological configuration of their antennae, aedeagus, protibiae and metacoxal lamina. These new species fit well within the vagans-group and a key is presented to distinguish these new species within the vagans group. Additionally, distribution data of these new species are provided and biological data of the genus Scaptolenus are presented and analyzed.

We present the most complete synthetic overview of the diversity of the order Coleoptera in Mexico to date. A list of all families known in Mexico is provided, as well as those likely distributed in Mexico but not yet officially recorded, including the number of described species recorded in the country for each. A summary of the state of knowledge for each family is included. Based on our data, Mexican beetles are represented by all four suborders, seven series, 24 superfamilies, and 129 families, plus eight families not yet recorded but probably distributed in the country based on their distribution in neighboring countries. Currently, 21,755 beetle species are recorded from Mexico.

Se presentan registros nuevos para: Aspisoma aelianum (Gorham), Cratomorphus picipennis Gorham, Lucidota discolor Gorham, Photinus ahuizotli Zaragoza-Caballero y Domínguez-León, P. anagabrielae Zaragoza-Caballero y Gutiérrez-Carranza, P. hoffmanni Zaragoza-Caballero y Gutiérrez-Carranza, P. juanrulfoi Zaragoza-Caballero y Domínguez-León, P. kaedii Zaragoza-Caballero y González-Ramírez, P. paracongruus Zaragoza-Caballero, P. silveirai Zaragoza-Caballero y González-Ramírez, P. tenuilineatus Zaragoza-Caballero, P. toledoi Zaragoza-Caballero, P. perezi Zaragoza-Caballero, Photuris fulvipes (Blanchard inBrullé) y Pyropyga extensa Green.
