A field experiment was conducted during 2010 in semi- arid climate of Rajasthan to asses the effect of vermicompost and fertility levels on the pearl millet. Application of vermicompost @ 6 tonnes/ha significantly improved the growth and yield attributes and yields of the pearl millet. Application of vermicompost @ 6 tonnes/ha increased the grain yield of pearl millet by 51.4, 20.1 and 7.3% and stover yield by 42.4, 19.3 and 6.3 percent respectively over control, 2 and 4 tonnes/ha vermicompost, respectively. Application of vermicompost @ 6 tonnes/ha recorded significantly higher N content in grain and stover indicating an increase of 10.4 and 16.3 over control, 13.5 and 8.4 over 2 tonnes/ha and 16.6 and 3.2 percent over 4 tonnes/ha, respectively. Phosphorus content in grain and stover were significantly higher by 11.6 and 13.7% over control. Application of 6 tonnes/ha of vermicompost significantly increased N and P uptake in pearl millet. The highest net return (` 11 785) was obtained with vermicompost @ 2 tonnes/ha and minimum with 6 tonnes/ha vermicompost. Application of 100% RDF significantly increased nutrient content, nutrient uptake and net return (` 13 798/ha) and proved significantly superior to all the lower levels of fertility.

Effect of sulphur and fortified vermicompost on growth and yield of mustard [Brassica juncea] was carried out at College of Agriculture, Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner (Rajasthan) during rabi season: 2010–11. Sixteen treatment combinations comprising four levels of each sulphur and fortified vermicompost were evaluated. Progressive increase in levels of sulphur from control to 40 kg ha−1 resulted significant improvement in growth and yield attributest. Seed yield and net returns during the crop season, it represented the seed yield 15.98 q ha−1 that was 8.9 and 24.02 per cent higher than 20 kg ha−1 and control, respectively. Remaining at par with 60 kg ha−1, it also fetched 10.47 and 30.4 per cent higher net returns than above levels of sulphur. Growth and yield attributes, seed yield as well as net returns in mustard also increased considerably with every increase in levels of fortified vermicompost. The highest value of most of these attributes was recorded under 6.0 t ha−1, only. Providing the seed yield of 18.65 q ha−1, this level enhanced it to the extent of 10.86, 13.34 and 79.68 per cent over 4.0 t ha−1, 2.0 t ha−1 and control, respectively. Application of fortified vermicompost at 6.0 t ha−1 fetched the maximum net returns of Rs 29551 ha−1 that were 8.17, 33.73 and 86.05 per cent higher than 4.0 t ha−1, 2.0 t ha−1 and control.

Effect of sulphur and fortified vermicompost on growth and yield of mustard [Brassica juncea] was carried out at College of Agriculture, Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner (Rajasthan) during rabi season: 2010-11. Sixteen treatment combinations comprising four levels of each sulphur and fortified vermicompost were evaluated. Grain yield (1993 kg ha-1) increased significantly (p < 0.05) up to 6.0 t vermicompost ha-1 along with 40 kg sulphur ha-1. As regards interactive effects of treatment, synergistic behavior was noted between 6.0 t vermi-compost ha-1 40 kg S ha-1 for seed yield, nitrogen, and phosphorus contents and also sulphur content and uptake by seed of mustard. The significantly higher P content in seed was recorded under 40 kg S ha-1 in combination with 4.0 t ha-1 vermicompost Combined effect of levels of vermicompost and sulphur on seed yield was found to be significant than control. The concomitant effect of 6.0 t vermicompost ha-1 and 40 kg S ha-1 application was found highly pronounced on seed yield and sulphur content in seed of mustard.
