Dr. Baehyun Min is an Associate Professor in the Department of Climate and Energy Systems Engineering at Ewha Womans University in South Korea. He was a former department head by July 2024 before coming to the University of Houston to spend his 1-year sabbatical.
He received a B.S. and a M.S. in Civil, Urban, and Geosystems Engineering from Seoul National University in the Republic of Korea in 2005 and 2007, respectively, and Ph.D. in Energy Systems Engineering from Seoul National University in 2013.
From January 2014 to February 2017, he served as a postdoctoral fellow and a research associate in the Department of Petroleum & Geosystems Engineering and the Center for Subsurface Modeling of the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (ICES) at The University of Texas at Austin.
His research interests span geoenergy engineering, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), and stochastic analysis based on evolutionary optimization and data-driven technologies. As of now, he has published 53 journal papers, 1 book, 4 patents, and presented 109 technical presentations.
He is a member of several geoenergy societies such as SPE, AGU, SIAM Geosciences, and IAMG. Currently, he serves as the Social Activities Chair of the SPE Korea Section and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Korean Society of Petroleum Engineers (KSPE).
