Ramana TamminanaHari Babu BollikollaA novel, convenient and efficient protocol for the construction of various 2-aminophenyl benzothiazoles by domino intra- and intermolecular C–N cross-coupling reactions of arylisothioureas with aryl iodides using an inexpensive, air stable and readily available copper catalyst is described. The arylisothioureas were obtained from thiourea via copper promoted desulfurization followed by nucleophilic substitution. In addition, the reactivity of arylhalides and the reaction mechanism have also been studied. The protocol features operational simplicity and a broad substrate scope.

Dr. Hari Babu Bollikolla serves as the Registrar of Andhra Kesari University in Ongole and a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU), Guntur. Specializing in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, and the development of heterocyclic compounds and natural products, he earned his M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from Andhra University and his Ph.D. in Physical Sciences from ANU, alongside an MBA in HR & Finance. With an extensive publication record numbering over 200 research papers, multiple patents, and a track record of mentoring dozens of Ph.D. scholars, Dr. Bollikolla has received numerous accolades for his academic and research contributions, including the AP State Best Teacher Award and fellowship recognitions from prominent scientific societies RSC.
