Biography

My research career started in 2008 at Sapienza University in Rome. I focused on plant defense activation upon sensing danger signals, such as cell wall-derived oligosaccharins, and on how they antagonize auxin responses. After my PhD in 2011, my work has contributed to the knowledge of the oligogalacturonide biology, by identifying key signaling elements and their subcellular dynamics during elicitor-induced immunity. In 2016 I joined the Brassinosteroids lab at VIB-UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology in Gent, where I contributed to demonstrate that plasma membrane dynamics and clathrin-mediated internalization of activated Pattern Recognition Receptor complex components are required for danger signal initiation by endogenous elicitors, Peps. In 2018, I started my own research group, and I am Associate Professor in Plant Physiology at the University of Tuscia in Viterbo. Our work aims at combining science-based knowledge with innovative biotechnological methods to enhance crop resilience to biotic stresses.
