David Gutiérrez (a.k.a. Dania Gutiérrez) received the B.Sc. degree (with honors) in electrical engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Mexico City, Mexico, in 1997 and the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering and computer sciences and the Ph.D. degree in bioengineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago, IL, USA, in 2000 and 2005, respectively. From 2005 to 2006, she held a Postdoctoral Fellowship with the Department of Computer
Systems Engineering and Automation, Institute of Research in Applied Mathematics and Systems, UNAM. In 2006, she joined the Center for Research and Advanced Studies (Cinvestav) Monterrey, Apodaca, Mexico, where she is an Associate Professor in the area of medical sciences. Her current research interests include statistical signal processing and its applications to biomedicine, neurosciences, neurocognition, image processing, and biomechanics. She held the position of Academic Secretary of Cinvestav Monterrey during 2015-2020. Dr. Gutiérrez is a former Fulbright Scholar and a former student fellow of the Mexican Council for Science and Technology (Conacyt). She is considered a National Researcher by Conacyt since 2007, and she currently holds its level-I fellowship. She is a Senior Member of The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) since 2014.
