Douglas Chai is the Associate Dean (Academic) in the School of Engineering. He completed his BE (Hons) and PhD degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Western Australia, Australia, in 1994 and 1999, respectively. His research interests include image analysis, pattern recognition, computer vision, barcode technology and document imaging. He was an associate editor of the Australian Journal of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (AJEEE) (2014-2017). Associate Professor Chai is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He has served in various IEEE committees for over 24 years, including chairmanship of the IEEE Western Australia Section (in 2003-2004, 2007-2008) and the IEEE Signal Processing Western Australia Chapter (in 2005-2006, 2008, 2011-2013, 2018-2019).
