Daniel T. Cotfas received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in mathematics and physics from Transilvania University of Brasov, Brasov, Romania, in 1995 and 2001, respectively. He received his Ph.D. in 2008 and completed his degree in electronic engineering, telecommunications, and information technology in 2019. In 2002, he joined the Physics Department at Transilvania University of Brasov as an Assistant. He became a Lecturer in 2004, joined the Electronics and Computers Department in 2011, and advanced to Associate Professor in 2015, before being promoted to Professor in 2020. His research interests include renewable energy, energy harvesting, hybrid systems testing, optoelectronics, virtual instrumentation, and remote engineering. Prof. Dr. Cotfas is the author of eleven books and book chapters, over 100 research articles, and holds one patent. He serves as an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Photoenergy and Frontiers in Energy Research and as a Guest Editor for several other journals. He has received several awards, including three at the Graphical System Design Achievement Awards at NIWeek 2013 for his work on the Renewable Energy Laboratory using NI ELVIS, NI LabVIEW, and NI myDAQ, as well as a Gold Medal at Euroinvent in Lasi, Romania, in 2015. He is a member of the International Association of Online Engineering (IAOE), the Romanian Physical Society (SRF), the European Optical Society (EOS), the Leonardo Virtual Community, and Creding.
