Information

Eva Papastergiadou is a Professor at the Department of Biology, University of Patras, Greece, with expertise in the ecology of aquatic macrophytes. Coordinator of the Greek National “Natura 2000” program for implementing the EU Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC in Greece. Expertise in ecosystem-scale dynamics in freshwaters, involved in many monitoring projects on the conservation, management plans of protected areas, rehabilitation, and restoration of wetlands. Expertise in developing aquatic macrophyte indices to implement Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EE) in lakes, rivers, coastal and transitional waters. She has experience as a key partner and National representative of Greece and Cyprus in the MEDGIG Intercalibration process for rivers (quality element, macrophytes); in many national and international projects on biodiversity conservation, shallow lakes functioning; monitoring and management of protected areas; coordination of scientific working teams (e.g., Implementation of the Natura 2000 network). The main research interests focused on Freshwater Ecology, and Management included functional aspects of lake and river communities, effects of climate changes on aquatic ecosystem dynamics, evaluation of ecological quality and dynamics of aquatic and riparian vegetation, biodiversity monitoring, impacts of human activities, and landscape ecology.
