Analyzing the conditions of use and selecting which technology is more efficient to apply is required when transmitting information through wireless networks. The Internet of Things (IoT) has gained traction in industry and academia as a paradigm in which information and communication technologies merge to deliver unique solutions by detecting, actuating, calculating, and sharing massive volumes of data via embedded systems. In this scenario, Low-Power Wide-Area Networks (LPWAN) appear to be an attractive solution for node connectivity. Typical IoT solutions demand flexible restrictions for wireless communication networks in terms of data rates and latency in exchange for having larger communication ranges and low energy consumption. Nonetheless, as the amount of data and data speeds demanded for particular applications increase, such as image transmissions, IoT network connectivity deteriorates. This paper proposes a communication architecture for image transmission across LPWAN networks utilizing LoRa modulation. The framework combines image processing techniques (classification, compressive sensing (CS), and reconstruction) with an investigation of LoRa modulation parameters using a Software-Defined Radio (SDR) environment. The results show that is possible to communicate an image of 128×128 pixels with four packets and one frequency channel in 2.51 s.

This paper presents results of a safety analysis of WLAN networks in the city of Tunja, Boyacá Colombia, it is based on a random sample distributed in all over the City. The study is a research result of the project "diagnosis of technology security, applied to a sample of organizations in the city of Tunja". It was funded by the University of Santo Tomas Sectional Tunja. The information collected and analyzed was obtained through the techniques warchalking and Wardriving, in a meaningful representation of wireless networks from public, private, educational institutions and households located geographically in different parts of the city. As a result of the research it was demonstrated different risk levels regarding certain technology configurations of devices of the public, private and residential sectors, finally some conclusions and recommendations were made to enhance the level of security through good practice to configurational level and use of these networks.

High quality television content such as IPTV is delivered at a high cost for network operators. Most of the time, the network capacity (maximum bandwidth) is under-utilized and therefore there is room for additional content to be placed by an IPTV content generator in the communication channel. In order to use the spare capacity, it is necessary to use mechanisms to estimate the bandwidth availability in such way that the content generator is able to react when there is a change in the network. In this paper it is shown that an available bandwidth estimator can be used to provide estimates to an IPTV content generator so that new content can be delivered or the quality of service and experience can be improved. A controlled network environment is used to transmit five sequences of an IPTV video and measure the real utilization of the network and compare it with the estimated by a tool called Traceband. Results show that the granularity of the estimation is good for the content generator to react to variations in the network utilization.

The objective of this study was to determine the cause of weight variation of up to 60g in milk bags in an aseptic packaging machine, variables directly related to the weight of the bags were analyzed, leading to the determination that the cause was the horizontal sealing with Festo servo motors, the actuation and synchronization generated by the communication between the PLC and the servo motor controller were identified as the culprit, this system was homologated due to worldwide disruptions in the acquisition of technological equipment, as a result of identifying and correcting the system, a weight variation of +/-3g was achieved in the packaging, which aligns with quality standards, this improvement was attributed to the optimization of routine execution times and data packet transmission times.
