Biography

Dr. Fei Zhou is an Associate Professor in the School of Life Sciences at Nanjing University, where his research focuses on plant secondary metabolism. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Nanjing University in 2010 and completed his Ph.D. (2010–2016) under the joint supervision of Profs. Shan Lu and Natalia Dudareva. He then conducted postdoctoral research (2016–2021) with Prof. Eran Pichersky at the University of Michigan, where he mastered advanced molecular biology and metabolic engineering techniques. In 2022, he returned to Nanjing University as an Associate Researcher and was promoted to Tenure-Track Associate Professor in 2023. His research addresses how and why plants produce diverse secondary metabolites as adaptive responses to environmental stresses and ecological pressures. He has made significant contributions, including elucidating the regulation of geranylgeranyl diphosphate metabolism in rice (PNAS, 2017), clarifying the evolution of geranyl diphosphate synthase (The Plant Cell, 2023), decoding terpenoid biosynthetic pathways in tomato (New Phytologist, 2020), and identifying the first plant salicylic acid 1-hydroxylase in Solanaceae species (Plant Physiology, 2021). His work resulted in 17 publications with over 1,100 citations, including two highly cited papers published in 2020.
