Biography

My main research interest as an invertebrate immunologist is the innate immune response of marine organisms to bacterial infection. To understand the effects and outcomes resulting from bacterial invasion and effectors, I combine transcriptomics, enzymatic activity, molecular and cellular techniques to study the organismal response and the role of genes and proteins in immune signaling pathways in both cnidarian and human. My project at the Scientific Center of Monaco has focused on the parallels between innate immunity of a sea anemone and human cells infected by a pathogenic bacterium originating from the sea but causing gastroenteritis in humans worldwide.
