In the past few years, deep learning has developed rapidly, and many researchers try to combine their subjects with deep learning. The algorithm based on Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) has been successfully applied in the fields of weather forecasting, stock forecasting, action recognition, etc. because of its excellent performance in processing Spatio-temporal sequence data. Among them, algorithms based on LSTM and GRU have developed most rapidly because of their good design. This paper reviews the RNN-based Spatiotemporal sequence prediction algorithm, introduces the development history of RNN and the common application directions of the Spatio-temporal sequence prediction, and includes precipitation nowcasting algorithms and traffic flow forecasting algorithms. At the same time, it also compares the advantages and disadvantages, and innovations of each algorithm. The purpose of this article is to give readers a clear understanding of solutions to such problems. Finally, it prospects the future development of RNN in the Spatio-temporal sequence prediction algorithm.

Nowadays, big data has become ubiquitous. Big data contains great value and chance. However, big data also brings many security risks and privacy-preserving problems. Security and privacy issues are magnified by velocity, volume, and variety of big data. Then, traditional security mechanisms are not suitable for big data security. Privacy preserving is one of the major challenges in big data. This paper surveys privacy preserving in big data and its key techniques. And, legal measures and industry specifications regarding privacy preserving for big data are also addressed. Finally, some new privacy challenges in the future are summarized.

Because of the uncertainty of weather and the complexity of atmospheric movement, extreme weather has always been an important and difficult meteorological problem. Extreme weather events can be called high-impact weather, the ‘extreme’ here means that the probability of occurrence is very small. Deep learning can automatically learn and train from a large number of sample data to obtain excellent feature expression, which effectively improves the performance of various machine learning tasks and is widely used in computer vision, natural language processing, and other fields. Based on the introduction of deep learning, this article makes a preliminary summary of the existing extreme weather prediction methods. These include the ability to use recurrent neural networks to predict weather phenomena and convolutional neural networks to predict the weather. They can automatically extract image features of extreme weather phenomena and predict the possibility of extreme weather somewhere by using a deep learning framework.

In recent years, with the rapid development of human society, more and more complex tasks have emerged that require deep learning to automatically extract abstract feature representations from a large amount of data, and use reinforcement learning to learn the best strategy to complete the task. Through the combination of deep learning and reinforcement learning, end-to-end input and output can be achieved, and substantial breakthroughs have been made in many planning and decision-making systems with infinite states, such as games, in particular, AlphaGo, robotics, natural language processing, dialogue systems, machine translation, and computer vision. In this paper we have summarized the main techniques of deep reinforcement learning and its applications in image processing.

Climate disasters such as floods and droughts often bring heavy losses to human life, national economy, and public safety. El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is one of the most important inter-annual climate signals in the tropics and has a global impact on atmospheric circulation and precipitation. To address the impact of climate change, accurate ENSO forecasts can help prevent related climate disasters. Traditional prediction methods mainly include statistical methods and dynamic methods. However, due to the variability and diversity of the temporal and spatial evolution of ENSO, traditional methods still have great uncertainty in predicting ENSO. In recent years, with the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology, it has gradually penetrated into all aspects of people’s lives, and the climate field has also benefited. For example, deep learning methods in artificial intelligence can automatically learn and train from a large amount of sample data, obtain excellent feature representation, and effectively improve the performance of various learning tasks. It is widely used in computer vision, natural language processing, and other fields. In 2019, Ham et al. used a convolutional neural network (CNN) model in ENSO forecasting 18 months in advance, and the winter ENSO forecasting skill could reach 0.64, far exceeding the dynamic model with a forecasting skill of 0.5. The research results were regarded as the pioneering work of deep learning in the field of weather forecasting. This paper introduces the traditional ENSO forecasting methods and focuses on summarizing the various latest artificial intelligence methods and their forecasting effects for ENSO forecasting, so as to provide useful reference for future research by researchers.
