Prof FX Aviles is senior group coleader and professor at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, UAB, where he has been former director of the Dept. of Biochemistry & Mol Biol and of the Institute for Biotechnology and Biomedicine (IBB). He is Prof. Emeritus of UAB, keeping active in research with his group and granted projects. Besides UAB, he has been trained in the field of structural biology and biotechnology of proteins at the CSIC-Madrid, University of Portsmouth (Biophysics), ETH-Zurich (IMBB, K. Wüthrich group -Nobel Laureate-), MP-Biochemie Munich (R. Huber group -Nobel Laureate-), University of Cambridge (T. Blundell group –Sir), University of Uppsala (& BMC center), and University of Lund, with long or medium stays. There, completed training in bioinformatics, proteomics, protein biotechnology and on "Proteolytic Enzymes, Inhibitors and Biological Control", subject for which he got international recognition. He supervised 44 PhD thesis, co-authored 279 peer-reviewed publications (H-index 52; 9751 citations), and leaded/contributed in a significant number of research projects, networks and meetings/workshops at the national/international levels (i.e. for The Protein Society, FEBS and SCB), either as speaker or organizer.
