Dr Fengwei (David) Xie specialises in polymer/food engineering with a strong focus on biopolymers (polysaccharides and proteins) that can be readily derived from renewable biomass. His research involves the development of materials and composites with advantageous performance and appropriate end-of-life considerations. He is also investigating the functional properties of biopolymers for food applications, from texture and health effects to preservation and packaging. His research into the realisation of desired food/material microstructures and the structure-property relationship of polymers enables application challenges to be effectively addressed.
