Over the past 15 years, I've worked in plant breeding and crop genomics, moving from a research assistant role through to my current position as Associate Professor at Alexandria University's Faculty of Agriculture (Saba Basha). A brief look back: 2011–2014 — Research Assistant, working on sowing methods and bio-organic fertilization in wheat. 2014–2020 — Assistant Lecturer, while also completing my PhD in Crop Science at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Beijing, under a CSC scholarship. My thesis focused on map-based cloning of a QTL (qBN-1) linked to branch number in soybean — work that involved building mapping populations, high-density genetic maps, and validating candidate genes through transgenic complementation and CRISPR-Cas9 editing. 2020–2026 — Assistant Professor, shifting focus to soybean responses to abiotic stress. This period involved evaluating genotype stability across environments (AMMI and GGE biplot analyses) and using RNA-seq to identify stress-responsive genes and regulatory networks. 2026–present — Associate Professor, continuing this line of work with an emphasis on stress-responsive gene networks in soybean. I currently hold this role jointly with a position at the Heilongjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences (HAAS), where much of my soybean genomics work is based.
