Eun-Joon Chun is a Professor in the Department of Materials System Engineering at Pukyong National University, Republic of Korea. He earned his Ph.D. in Materials and Manufacturing Science (Welding and Joining) from Osaka University, Japan, with a dissertation on the repair weldability of 316FR stainless steels for fast breeder reactors. Prior to joining Pukyong National University, he served as a Senior Researcher at the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM), Principal Researcher at Hyundai Motor Company, and Assistant Professor at Kyungnam University. His research focuses on welding and additive manufacturing metallurgy, solidification and hot cracking phenomena, and laser-based materials processing. He has published over 70 SCI-indexed journal papers and presented more than 200 papers at international conferences, contributing significantly to the field of welding and joining. Professor Chun has received several prestigious international awards, including the Henry Granjon Prize from the International Institute of Welding (IIW) and the William Spraragen Best Paper Award from the American Welding Society (AWS). His current research aims to develop predictive models and advanced mitigation strategies for solidification cracking and defect formation in high-performance structural and energy-related alloys.
