Biography

I am a biomedical scientist with a special interest in diseases associated with the neuromuscular junction and glycosylation. My undergraduate training was in Biochemistry at the University of Warwick, and my doctoral training was in Clinical Neuroscience at the University of Birmingham. I carried out post-doctoral research at the Structural Genomics Consortium at Oxford University, specialising in human membrane protein structure and function studies. I then obtained a UKRI MRC Career Development Fellowship to start my independent research at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences. I lead a collaborative multi-disciplined group that uses a combination of biochemistry, structural biology, molecular biology and electrophysiology to carry out basic and translational research into congenital myasthenic syndromes, and congenital disorders of glycosylation. We are part of the UK national referral service for congenital myasthenia, carrying out functional diagnostics for the clinical service. We also work closely with industrial collaborators and patient charities to develop new treatments.
